Press Release from DGR-Crosley:
Drew Dollar and his No. 54 Dollar Concrete Construction Camry rallied back to a sixth-place finish in Twin No. 2 at South Boston after getting wrecked in Twin race No. 1
MOORESVILLE N.C. (May 5, 2019) — Drew Dollar and his No. 54 Dollar Concrete Construction Toyota team collected a sixth-place finish in the second of two NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Twin 100 races. He had a strong run going in the first twin race at South Boston (Va.) Speedway before being wrecked with three laps remaining. The damage to his car took him out of contention, relegating him to a 12th-place finish.
The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender was searching for his first win of the season and looked to have a fast Camry right off the hauler. During practice on Saturday, Dollar had a best lap time of 15.398-seconds which ranked fourth on the speed chart. Later in the day during qualifying, he earned a second-place starting position behind his DGR-Crosley teammate, Tanner Gray. When the green flag flew, Dollar was putting together a solid race. He ran inside the top-three for most of the 100 lap race. On lap 97, after contact from another car, Dollar had a run in with the wall. The damage to his Camry relegated him to a 12th-place finish in Twin race No. 1.
Before the beginning of Twin No. 2, Dollar’s DGR-Crosley team had to pull out his backup car which resulting in a last-place starting position for the 18-year-old driver. The speed in Dollar’s Camry helped him gain track position quickly. He was up to seventh before a rainstorm moved in with only 17 laps complete. Officials were forced to postpone the race until the following day. On Sunday, Dollar started from seventh-place. He went on to finish sixth in the second twin race at the 0.4-mile track of South Boston Speedway. Dollar sits seventh in Championship point standings but is only 21 points away from the leader.
A replay of the WhosYourDriver.org Twin 1000’s will be broadcast on NBCSN. The first race will air on May 8 at 6 p.m., ET. The second race will air at 6 p.m., ET on May 9.
Dollar on South Boston: “Disappointed with how our weekend went at South Boston. We had a really good run going in the first race before being taken out with three to go. Then we had to go to a backup for the second race and we just weren’t able to get it tuned-up like our primary. My DGR-Crosley guys were awesome as usual, things just didn’t go our way this weekend. We’ll shift our focus to Memphis now and head there with our minds set on getting the win.”
